News: Resident Evil Kept Off Top Spot in Japan

Revelations certainly brings in the crowds, but it’s not enough to secure the top of the chart…
The latest Japanese charts are out for the week of January 23rd to 29th, with two franchise titans battling it out for the top spot. It was Capcom’s 3DS-exclusive Resident Evil: Revelations which had to settle for second-place, with From Software’s Armoured Core V on PS3 earning the bragging rights for the week.
Some context for the performance of Revelations – it was the biggest opening week for a Resident Evil game on a Nintendo platform in recent memory, just about beating out Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube.
The only other notable new entry was Namco’s remake of the DS RPG Tales of Innocence for Vita. Its debut fell short of the 3DS port of Tales of the Abyss, which shifted almost 75k on its opening week last year.

3DS itself set the tone for the year by staying well ahead of everything else. Tales of Innocence: R rose Vita levels slightly, but it’s far off making any sort of convincing challenge to Nintendo’s handheld.
